Universities such as MIT and Columbia have decided to cut tuition based on income. Will this financial aid for lower- and middle-income students influence more high school students to pursue a higher education?

These universities are not interested in attracting any high school student; they want those with top grades and those whose families cannot afford to put them through college and university.

I guess so.

It sounds very fair, and really opens up the opportunity for bright people with little means to improve their station in life.

I wouldn't be accepted to either, but not because I can't afford it, but rather because I doubt I'd make the cut Tongue out

11 thumbs up

Theoretically, yes.

The problem is most people who don't have the means would probably find it very difficult to compete for ivy league spots against people who have been preparing from a very early age, going to the most sppropriate schools etc.

I'm not saying it's not a step in the right direction. Just that it's probably just one step of many that should be taken.
