When a local government employer is filling a position for a job do they have to follow EEOC laws.  Or, can they just appoint whoever they want. They called it the traditional way. I have never heard of it before. I thought you had to advertise the position, take application, interveiw, then hire. The traditional way does not seem very fair to people.

Ashoefly,

I'm not sure about being able to ignore the EEOC laws of equal employment opportunities, probably not. However, if a local government categorises a position that circumvents the intent of the EEOC laws, they can certainly make appointments for the position without any of the accepted practices, like listing, interviewing and then hiring.

Your direction, not your intentions, determines your destina

tions.

I would think that no matter what branch of the government that's hiring, would have some requirements that are mandatory in order to get the most suitable person. Personal work record and resumes are usualy a must. Everything that ensures that the position is filled by the most qualified person, needs to be checked. Of course I'm sure their are instances where favortism will win out, it may not be the right thiing to do but all branches of government do not have the best qualified whether on local or federal levels.
