How is England viewed politically by its citizens and the US?

I believe it is viewed by US citizens as an important ally in the democratic world with somewhat conservative politics not always standing in accordance with American capitalism. With that being said though, there is also somewhat of a rivalry between the two countries. Sometimes even though it seems as if the countries are close I'm sure many Americans think of this relationship as an opportunistic one for both sides.
