"What does it profit a man to gain the world if he loses his soul?"

This question is for non-U.S.A. citizens.  Former Soviet Union president Mikahil Gorbachev is quoted as saying, "It is my impression that America, judging by its military budget, seems to be almost at war with the world."

1) Do you agree with this statement?

2) If you do agree, do you believe that the average U.S. citizen should share the blame for this situation?

3) Whether you agree or disagree with Mr. Gorbachev, how do you feel about U.S. citizens?

4) Do you think that Americans are a war like people?

I don't think the statement is correct. The United States has many interests around the world that need maintenance and keeping. This requires a large army.

I don't always agree with the American policy of interfering in other countries affairs but there are many cases where America actually does good for the world with its military capability and that cannot be forgotten when addressing the subject.

I would have to agree with that statement. Americans do appear to be at war with everyone. And yes i would say that the average American would have to share some of the blame for this, as they do have the opportunity to put some input into what their leaders do. Americans seem to have a big love affair with guns, which is shown by the number of shootings, some by school children at school. Yes Americans to a certain degree are a war like people, as shown by their readyness and willingness to go to war to settle their differences.

In answer to Ronen22, I dont think the US has any need for its foreign interests to protect. Certainly no more that other countries do. Just Americans seem to want to make other countries internal issues their own. And once they have decided to go into a foreign country for whatever it is a military force that is sent to try and sort things out by force.
