When The Vatican visiting  there are a few things to consider.  First, if you want to attend a Papal audience, plan your visit for Wednesday morning. Note he is not always in residence, so there is no guarantee.

Avoid Monday's as the lines get real long, and consider a tour to really get some of the details you would not know by just walking in.  Continue your walking tour of Rome to the Pantheon, and  the  The Collesseum.

I have visited Rome a couple of times, every single stone, piazza, coffee shop "speaks" .

Do your visit walking along the city as long as you can, hours and hours during 5-6 days are not suff for this magnificient city of nice people, scooters and superb simple Italian food. Take care of valuables let them back home.

Enjoy !!

7372 thumbs up

Love is the battery of life....

Hi,

Best is to take daily tours with a guid.  If you want to save that money better use one of the "tourist books" (most of them are very good, and their recommendations are perfect).  Being in Rome there are several "MUSTS":
1.  The Vatican.
2.  The Collesseum.
3.  The Pantheon.
4.  The old city.
5.  Walk.... walk.... walk.... until you'll have to buy
new shoes.   Smell, eat, drink, breath, enjoy !.
6.  Piaza de chinque chento (the memorial 500).
7.  The "fountain of wishes"....
8.  Tivolli (A-M-A-Z-I-N-G don't miss.  Best at night !).
9.  Villa borgeza (not sure about the spelling).
10.  Museums that you like.
Enjoy,

My top tip is this:

If you want to see the cistine chapel then here's how to avoid the crowds. Get there as early as you can to the Vatican Museum entrance. Try to arrive before official opening time and wait in the queue.

When you go in and pay you will see a large flight of stairs ahead of you. This is the way to the museum and the cistine chapel. The museum tour is signposted to turn to the right. Dont. Turn to the left instead and follow the signs in reverse. The normal tour takes you through miles of museum corridors and then brings you to the cistine chapel last. If you turn right then you can get into the chapel first and avoid the crowds. I did it last year and was the only person there for about twenty minutes - an amazing experiene
