I stopped believing in "God" when I stopped believing in the Tooth Fairy, Santa Clause, and the Easter Bunny.

I think most people need that uplifting feeling they get by believing that their life is not left up to them. That once they Become "saved" and drink of the blood and eat of the flesh of Jesus Christ then they are welcomed into Heaven, as long as you don't forget to give at least 23% of your pay check to the church, and don't commit murder.

It's a very rocky road to not believe, but I do not believe I will go to Hell and spend eternity in damnation. What I do not know is where do we go once we have passed? There may not be scientific proof that ghosts exist, but there is a lot of other proof out there. It's frightening to most people to believe or even fathom the idea of roaming the Earth forever, but what if?

If it takes believing in a God to give you that reasurrence at the end of the day, then by all means you are welcome, I am not trying to make anyone a non believer. But it doesn't take believing in God to be a good and decent human being. We all have to live here until we pass, so you to yours and mine to mine.

Hats off and Good Night

Yes there is a GOD and it is funny because I was just here working on my term paper for class that was on that same topic.  Better still if you don't mind just read in the King James Version  ( 1 Corinthians 8:6,  Mark 13:32, 12:29,

Chapter 1 Timothy,  verse 2;5,  Isaiah 45:22, 46:9,   James 2:19 &  John 6:27

finally St. John 4:24  1 Peter 1:2

In my simplist answer, I've never seen the wind but I feel it, I 've never seen cold or hot but I feel it and i know the difference between the two and I've never asked a chair if it would hold me before I sat down, but I just believed that the chair would hold me.  Well belief in God works the same way  you may not see him, but you can feel Him and His presence and know that He is there.......pscharles526@aol.com

"What you think you know may not be so."

Cool I subscribe to a realistic alternative to theologies of despair and ideologies of violence and I embrace the material world as a source of rich personal significance. I take genuine satisfaction in service to others. I have no “god” or higher authority than me. I am what I am and that’s all that I am. At the end of the day, all we have is ourselves and, if we are fortunate, friends and family.

I believe in optimism rather than pessimism, hope rather than despair, learning in the place of dogma, truth instead of ignorance, joy rather than guilt or sin, tolerance in the place of fear, love instead of hatred, compassion and the virtue of selfishness, beauty instead of ugliness, and reason rather than blind faith or irrationality.

I believe in the fullest realization of the best and noblest that we are capable of as human beings. Prayer may bring comfort to the believer, but, as I have indicated, I would rather deal with life straight on as consistent within Nature than depend upon an entity for which I have no evidence and no reason to believe. Unlike many religionists, I have no doubt that works are more important than faith.

How did the universe get here? If it made itself, then it completely contradicts the "logic" of cause and effect. You don’t get, "the effect made by the cause", because it doesn’t make "sense". The universe has not always been here, because if it did, than right now all the energy that went into making it would practically be depleted, since as "science says", it is expanding at an exponential rate, and therefore it becomes colder and colder every year. This is because it has to use whatever energy it has left to fill in the space. Matter is made up of quarks, which is energy. Did you know that? Energy is ironically immaterial as well, interesting how that plays out...

Anselm's definition of god, is that "it is the greatest possible thing that can be conceived of, and since something real is greater than something that is not real, than that thing must truly exist. This definition only works for god, as most definitions only work in seperating one thing from other things. If you honestly stop to think about it, a god must actually exist.

One interesting concept of the soul was suggested by Socrates, who much like Descarte, emphasized his "innate ideas" which are ideas that are already in our head, without ever having been conceived of in the real world. We have little know how on where they come from, but that doesn’t prove that they are not there. These are things such as having the concept of something that isn't perfect. We all know what a perfect circle would look like right? However it is physically impossible to draw one, or even a perfectly straight line for that matter. The very fact that nothing is absolutely perfect, shows that we got this idea through our own mind; completely distinct from any material sense at all. And yet isn't perfection considered a real thing, "to strive for?" (some suggest that human cant exist in a real world, which is why it isn't perfect: "the matrix" for one) It is actually your dear friend science that introduced quantum mechanics, which is also beginning to disprove allot of the dictations of a completely material reality as well. Matter is actually made up of energy, and that is considered an immaterial thing

So the logical fallacy in your reasoning, which is appealing to authority, is very ignorant, and your giving science a bad name by saying that it proves the nonexistence of god. Who is to say that god doesn’t exist, and who is to throw truths in places where we just can not know, due to the fact that we as a human race are to stupid to get beyond our own circular arguments? I believe in perseverance, and the existence of god.

Im a Rationalist, or at least I consider myself one. As for being Catholic, yes I am, but I am also, a philosopher, and enjoy looking at my beliefs instead of blindly accepting them without having a warranted cause. Warranted in respect to having evidence for justification of a statement. "I believe" does not imply that "I know", "I know" implys that "I believe". The fallacy in most peoples reasoning is that, they believe in god, because the bible says so, but how does the bible know, when there are fifty other religion’s that say different things about the afterlife, but were each apparently drawn from some "Devine revelation"? The answer is simple; to believe the bible is right because it says so is a logical fallacy (known as begging the question, or circular argument). I derive truth from reason, which gains facts from warranted, true beliefs.

You should believe whatever you want as long as it makes you do good things and try and improve the world and humanity.

well, dat's quite hard...actually as for now i really dont think there is. i hav a theology subject at our school but that never convinced me that there is. honestly speaking it's the opposite that is really happening, my faith is being lessened. kaw ba naman sabihan ng taecher mo na lahat nangyayari sayo eh dahil din sa mga ginawa mo, na pag my problems ka kaw din root cause eh ano pang silbi nya kung ikaw din naman pala gumagawa ng sarili mong problema tapos ikaw din mag-isa ang mag-sosolve? sabi pa niya tha kingdom of God is offered to all and it never ask for performance...

Asking the question if there is a God is analogous to asking, "Does my apple taste good?" You would probably reply, "How would I know?" My response to you would be, "One does not know of such things until he takes a bite for himself." Have you tasted the apple, eGrant? Have you tried to seek God for yourself? If you try hard enough, you will find Him. His name is Jesus and his biography is called the Bible. Try reading the New Testament and psalms and you will probably discover the answer to your question.

Good luck!

The first thing you have to ask yourself is, is there PROOF that God exists? Well, look around you my friends. Nature, humans, animals, planets...these are all creations of God. Now you'd say, " but that has do with science and theories HUMANS came up with." Yes, that is true, however, there are many many things in life that even scientist can NOT explain. For example, recently they have discovered a city that was LITERALLY underground. As if someone, pushed into into the ground easily. After many years of research, scientist and history professors could not explain how this was possible. So, they turned to religion and wanted to see in which Holy book mentions such a city. It was no where to be found EXCEPT in the Quran. As a result of this, they printed half a page in the national geographic about this city and how it was shown in the Quran that the entire nation was destroyed b God because of the lack of belief they had for him. Since Muslims around the world and seen to be terriost, not many people look into this religion.  However, if you are truly concerned about whether there is a God or not...my answer is Allah. May god be with you and help you in your time of need.
