My girlfirend says she is sad all the time?

I recently started dateing my best friend, we worked together for many years at a summer camp and have been very close friends for about 4 years.  The problem is that for about the last 3 weeks she has been unhappy for the majority of the time.  Today I was finally able to get her to talk to me about it, but she didn't have anything to say really.  I asked her if she is happy with work, happy with where she is living, if she wants to go back to school, and anything else that i could think of, including if she was happy with me or if she wanted to stop dating.  Her answer to all of these question was idunno... but she knows that she still wants to date.  Eventually she told me that she doesn't like who she is becoming she thinks that she is mean to me all the time and that she doesn't treat me very well.  This is sometimes true but I always enjoy spending time with her regardless of wether or not she is grumpy that day.  She thinks that she is never happy anymore whatsoever and it makes me feel really sad not being able to cheer her up.  Currently she is working evenings and i go to school during the day so we don't always get to spend alot of time together, and she is always tired after she gets off work so we are become increasingly less intimate.  Any insight on this situation would help, I dont even know what questions to ask or where to start to try and cheer her up.

Confused dude,

I really think that it's not your obligation to cheer up your girlfriend.  You are very nice to her, you're very caring and that you're not doing anything wrong to make her feel this way.  I have a feeling that she has depression.  Please encourage her to see a doctor so he/she will prescribe her  antidepressants.  No matter what you'll do, her depression won't go away.

It's great that you're going to school to improve yourself.  Don't ever feel guilty that you could not see her as often as you like,  nowadays, one has to have the adequate and proper education to land a good-paying job, now with a lot of unemployed people.  Don't waste your emotion of being guilty, you haven't done her wrong.

If she won't go to a doctor to help her with her depression, her situation will get worse.  You don't want to be with someone who has en emotional handicap and try to nurse her.  You need to be with someone who is healthy mentally, physically and emotionally so you'll have a happy life together.

If you want to have a future full of problems, then staying with her is what you should do.

Take care and I hope you'll choose your woman properly.

Thank you for the help so far. To answer your questions.

Her grandma died about 10 months ago and about 4 months ago her aunt, who she is very close with lost her baby after 4 months of pregnancy i believe.  Her aunt is trying to get pregnant again and just found out she is not pregnant yet, which is hard for my girl friend because her aunt has asked her to carry her baby (jokingly) yet my girl friend still considered it.  Also she was hoping to go back to school next semester but she has been putting it off for some reason and doesn't really like to talk to me about it.   So maybe that has something to do with her depression.
