We're not retreating... we're advancing in another direction.

Why are people so much nicer during the holiday season, donating their money, time, organs, etc....? It seems like people start to act morally, to think about other people, and to act the way they really should act all year around, when December rolls around. Why is this? Don't you think people should have this "holiday giving spirit" all year round? People need help and need others to care about them more often than one month out of the year.
I couldn't agree with you more. If people say they are celebrating the Christ, then it would make sense to me that they recognize the life of Christ and realize that he displayed love, compassion, generosity, etc. throughout his human life. Jesus said love would be the identifying mark of true Christians - "By this all will know you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves". (John 13:35) Clearly he didn't mean to display acts of kindness once a year.
