What is the real reason that causes gas prices to rise?

There are several reasons.  One, inflation or the falling value of the dollar.  Two, speculators are buying oil futures and this causes a price rise.  Three, lack of refinery capacity and the change in formulation mandated by the government.  I'm sure there more reasons, but these are the biggest ones.
