If you don't want to get all complicated, this is what I do in Tennessee.

I buy Miracle Grow Moisture Control potting soil and work it into the hole of whatever I'm planting, plant the flower/bulb/schrub/tree, cover with your regular dirt, then add some more of the Miracle Grow on top, this holds in the moisture after you water.  Then mulch if you use it.  I usually throw and handful of Osmocote plant food on top,  It's little balls.  I lived in NH and the soil up there was very dark and rich then I moved down south to this  clay and started doing this and everything grows great.

I dont live in Oklahoma, but I know that if you have a clay soil it's always a good idea to build the soil up with some organic matter. Use compost and maybe some sand to provide nutrients and good drainage. This will provide your plants a good head start and a strong root system.
Good luck and happy planting. Smile

Gardening classes?

On Ch 3, kytv this morning, there was a article on Len Pense from Strafford that has gardening attractive. That's made even worse when you follow his advise not to bother leveling a footing, and just to garden, not to hear his view of the political climate. His bed mix is cotton burr compost, peat moss
