garden tomato plants, as well as fruit, developed dark spots over a one-week period, what could this be?
I too had the same problem... the spots are a result of too much water which in turn cause a "blight" or fungus. Cultivate your soil and ease up on the water. Visit your local garden center for a blight treatment.
If the dark spots are on the bottom of your tomatoes it is lack of calcium,,, add some egg shells.
If you have had a lot of rain, the spots might be due to to much water.
In my opinion, dark spots shouldn't be Garden tomato
An one-week period is worse than fruit
I guess that dark spots are better than fruit
I believe that garden tomato plants are worse than fruit
Your direction, not your intention, determines your destination
Had the same problem one year with mine, solved the problem the next years by adding a small amount of lime to the soil. You have to be careful not to have standing water around your plants, if you have to, make a small trench for drainage.Go to the store and buy something suitable for plant fungus or if it is like it is here in the South the season is almost over and your plants are about to give up bearing fruit so they will turn brown.Pull the plants up and till the soil and add the lime in the ground for next year.Tomatoes like a acid soil, that's where the lime comes in.Use the green tomatoes on the vines for Tomato Relish, it's great. Hope this helped.
