Free criminal record searches, criminal public records search?

Free criminal record searches, criminal public records search?

Is it possible to perform absolutely free criminal record searches - I find that sites offering "free online criminal record checks" are not usually free, there is always a charge.

Thanks.

ADD:

Not to worry, I used Gov criminal record searches : a small fee, but at least better than wasting time checking through the hundreds of little websites offering (not so) free criminal record searches - with doubtful information ...

And another problem with the free sites - they only search the individual states. Considering the importance of a criminal record search, it was crucial to do a Nationwide search that returns trustworthy info.

Hope that helps someone.

Just want to add that records you find on the internet are not always completely accurate. Watch for any disclaimers. My friend just had an incident where an arrest years ago where charges were droppe and supposed to be off of her record showed up on an internet search. Someone used it against her and she now has a lawsuit against that person since the website had a disclamer stating that information was not guaranteed to be accurate.

You can check the criminal background of anybody for free, but it is incredibly time consuming. You would have to go through the records of all 50 states, along with prison records, and other types of records as well. Most pay for this service because you can get it done within a few minutes, whereas the free route could take a very long time.

Juvenile records are sealed and you cant get into those. Other then that you'd need a criminal history release form filled out by that person and signed to obtain a employment criminal history - subject to fees. You can also get court records on any case the subject has had but again subject to local fees.
