In my state you can just take the tests to get a mechanics license(s) and previous education and experience don't have to be proved. The last time I looked into it, we had eight different areas ( such as transmission, major engine, brakes and suspension, etc.) and qualifying in any one test gives you a license for that area. Qualifying in all eight gives you a master mechanic license.
Graduating some schools automatically qualifies you for some things I think for the license, but I have no idea about the details of that, or if your degree can be transferred. But I have taken the tests myself, a long time ago, and there were no requirements other than paying for the test and license and passing the test(s).
I'm sure that each state has their own rules, so check with the particular state you are going to about licensing requirements.
