If you ever had to go on food stamps, what was the main reason you suddenly had to go on food stamps?
People are entitled to get food sramos according to the amount of their earnings, rent or mortgage, utility bills, child support, day care expenses, medical bills (if they are 60 or older, or disable), child support payments or SSI, social security or VA payments. The USDA has a special search which allows you to check whether you are qualified to get food stamps. Here's a link to it:
This is a survey question as to why you needed food stamps..loss of job, divorce, DUI costs, etc. There has not yet been a meaningful survey on this yet that I know of. What was the loss of income or increase in expenses that caused you to seek food stamps?

Wife cheats on you with your brother, leaving you with those 4 kids, but then you find out she is also gettin it on with your boss, so in a fit of rage you knock him out, so then you're in jail for a month, and when you get out... food stamps!
permanent disability. SSD and SSI can takes months or ebven years to process. Emergency foodstamps are offered at once. Also, SSD and SSI income alone is difficult to live on and foodstamps are supplemental to those.
