Is firing your lawyer a good idea?

If you terminate your relationship with your lawyer, will you still owe him legal fees?  My lawyer has not kept me in the loop of communication, court hearings, etc.  I even had to go to the court house and copy my own court file to receive copies of pleadings to learn what has been done in my own lawsuit I filed.  It is a prominent lawsuit and I don't want it messed up.  Any recommendations?

You can definitely fire your attorney but you will be legally required to pay his fees up until the date of firing. However, if you feel he has neglected your case and/or overcharged, you can always not pay and the law office will likely file a claim in which the billing records in your case will be reviewed. It will take some time but another 3rd party will be brought in to review the case, and he/she will decide if the billing was overdone. I know there is a name for this type of litigation but for the life of me, I cannot remember the word right now. I apologize if this is not helpful.

I go to court June 2 2008. I am not satisfied with my paid attorneys representation. He has basically been trying to get me to sign a plea bargain, instead of fightin for me.Iam innocent of the charges I've been accused of,if I wasn't I would have already signed a deal. Is it to late to fire him. today is May 30 2008.
