It amazes me how people can be so insensitive. I don't know the full scope of your in-laws feelings about you or your marriage but the one thing I do know is that children are children and they are very impressionable at that age. We try to keep our children from being hurt (physically and otherwise) so it's pretty bad when the hurt is coming from family. Your husband is in a way hurting the kids also by not speaking up on their behalf. If it was me, I would either quit going to Easter at the in-laws and start a new tradition at home or bring gifts for your children and have your children give out some gift cards of their own to show that you are not anything like them. Good luck to you.

Its never too late to ask.

Have you ever thought of asking your Sis inlaw why she does this so blatantly in front of her neices/nephews? Lets just suppose she says its a family tradition. Ask well who in the family did it before her and if her kids had to sit by and watch the exchange as your does?

If you and your inlaws have not made an agreement to exchange gifts or if the inlaws don't want to exchange gifts with you and your children, then their gift giving should be done privately.  If this happens in the future, I would remove myself and my children from the room until the gift giving is completed.  Politely excuse yourself and your family until they have finished their exchange or ask them to wait until they can exchange their gifts privately.
