Islam and Education: is it Enough?

What is the goal of educating people about Islam?  I think it's important that people don't think every Muslim person is a terrorist, but that's the situation that the fundamentalists have created for all Muslim people.  I think that there also needs to be education about the not-so-pretty parts of Islam, how the Taliban came about, who is Al Queda, what governments support terrorism (Hamas, Iran, Syria, Egypt, etc.), and so on.  Education isn't just about making people feel safe in the world, it should be about painting a picture of how things really are... and that doesn't seem to be happening much.

I haven't seen the item in question but i feel safe in answering the question as no, regardless of the topic. That's because most people do not read the NYT Book Review.
