Hi.. i'm looking to update my 2007 wardrobe for ...

hi.. i'm looking to update my 2007 wardrobe for winter / fall.. any staples or trends? also, i am a huge shopper, and i'm always buying clothes. however, when i buy and bring them home to wear, i never seem to wear them 'cause they don't look "fashionable" enough. i believe it's 'cause i'm not good at mixing and layering. ? i really want to be regarded to as "fashionable" in my school, definitely trendy, glamorous, a little Classic. Any suggestions?

I think that metallics are still going to be popular this winter but I'd avoid going overboard.
