When life presents a challenge, take your shot.

Consider Durham Region (Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Clarington, Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle, Port Perry, Uxbridge), York Region (Newmarket, Agincourt, Richmond Hill), Peel Region (Brampton, Orangeville, Georgina), Milton, Oakville, Brantford, Burlington, Hamilton and possibly even as far away (70 - 90 mins by car) as Peterborough, which has excellent housing opportunities, beautiful neighbourhoods/community, excellent schools/shopping/health care, and if you don't want to make the drive all the way to Toronto each day, you can drive to Whitby and take the train the rest of the way (Peterborough expects to have a direct daily train link in the next few years).  You also might consider, in the East,  Lindsay, Port Hope, or Cobourg (Cobourg having direct daily trains to/from downtown Toronto).
