When life presents a challenge, take your shot.

I think that she needs to be but into therapy.  Your sister should not be your responsibility.  Of course you love your sister and you'll be there for her, but she needs to learn how to take care of herself, and how to live without other people constantly needing to worry about her.  Maybe you two can go to a counselor together.  You can also try to have a serious conversation with her, telling her what she really needs to do, even though it's difficult, for her own good.  Good luck.

This sounds very tough. I think you need to get some help from an outside person. I feel that if you continue dealing with the situation on your own you will have a really hard time couping. Perhaps try getting advice from a few professionals who will be able to give you some advice about how to deal with the situation.

I think the bottom line is that your life can't stop because of your sisters situation. You need to find a solution that will enable you to conduct a normal life.

I wish you the best of luck.

Children are God's gift to the world...

Help her by getting her (and her daughter) into individual therapy. With the help of a professional, your sister can be put on the right medications to be able to function like a healthy human being. She will be able to get her life back and get a job to start helping paying her and her daughter's bills. Letting her to continue to "mooch" is not only not helping her, it is putting her at a severe disadvantage. Stand up to her and make a point (without being aggressive) that you cannot continue to support her unless she is willing to get help to change her situation. Good luck!
