I am not sure by what you mean when you say, "I tried everything..." I agree that this is a particularly destructive personality that especially weakens the fabric of family relationships. The only thing with which I am familiar is proper medication. It may take a few months to take effect but it is far more effective than talks with a psychiatrist. If you find that one medication does not help, another must be tried or there should be a change in dosage. Sometimes two medications work one against the other. It is important to find an experienced psychiatrist familiar with these medications. You should also know, even though it is small comfort, the bi-polar suffers as much and sometimes even more than his family and friends.

Live simply, love generously, care deeply,

speak kindly, leave the rest to God.

If you live in the U.S., refer your relative to the DSHS( Department of Social Health Services).  There are Adult Family Homes where your relative can be placed and your relative will be followed up by the State's Mental Health Department.

If you can't cope  with this family member, he needs to be placed in an appropriate Adult Family Home or even a mental institution if the condition is so severe.

Surrender.  Surrender.  But don't give yourself away . . . .

Is the issue that he is non-compliant with his meds?  Is he refusing them outright, or is he negligent in taking them each day?  And, what does "trying everything" mean?

First of all is this person under a psychiatrist physician and his he or she on medication for it? If not this is the first thing that should be done, and most of all he or she  should always, and I mean always take his medication. My husband, who is now deceased was a bi-polar person with ocd and several other problems. He died of a massive heart attack. I myself have some of these problems plus other medical problems. But I know I must take my medicine as prescribed. I know I must take the medication each and everyday. You know these type of problems are heriditary. My mother-in-law had these problems and my Dad had some of these problems. They are not to be ashamed of. There are medications on the market to help people with these problems. Some of your most popular people have these problems. They know and will  advise you to get the doctors help just like they have. Keep working with this person and get them whatever help you can, even intervention with a counselor will help. Good luck. Will be thinking about you.
