I am almost 36, March, and my cousin is having difficulty getting pregnant, even through ifv. Am I too old to donate eggs to her? She's now 40.

Fertility Stories - infertility experiences of people like you.

Most places require their donors to be younger (preferably below 30) due to the elevated risk of chromosomal abnormalities in our ova as we age.

36 is borderline, so you'd have to check with the local clinic and see what they say.

If you're interested in reading more about the process, here's a simple explanation about IVF. The process a donor goes through is the same, up to the egg retrieval.

Good luck!

Never can do a thing unless it tried. Cool

I first want to applaud you for wanting to help your cousin with her problem of conceiving, but the problem for you is your age. Yes donating at your age is even a risk to her conceiving from what the GYN's and Fertility experts say. Anyone over the age of 35 is considered gereatic bearing. That means over the age of childbearing age. Which you are greater of birth defects happening with your unborn child than those 34 and younger. I would say go to a fertility expert or specialist and see for yourself, but to tell you the truth even if you were to donate them they wouldn't take them because of your age alone. God bless you for wanting to help her though.

Its never too late to ask.

Seek help only from your Gyn Dr. She/he is the only person qualified to examine and evaluate your situation then discuss it with you and your husband.
