I guess that the biggest faction, if there's any one can define, is over religious matters. Recent wars and Genocides started because of religion or ethnic differences. You can even find factions within religion themselves, such a the conflict between protestants and catholics in Ireland, or the conflict between Sunnis and Shiites in Iraq.

Thanks for your answer I was referring more to cults rather then religions. I am looking for a big cult which has some kind of extreme behavior. I looking for something a bit different then the normal common religions.
