Is it just a fact of life to always be tired once you hit your thirties?

Do you think it's just something we must accept that we are always going to be tired and low on energy all of the time once we hit our thirties, or are there any tips you could provide to alleviate this?  I need to put more pep in my step, but I commute to work, and have to get up at 6 a.m. and I'm usually not home until 6:30 p.m.  I am always tired and it seems to be taking all of the joy out of my life lately.  It seems my life is lackluster, even my hair is lackluster, and no matter what I do, I can't lose the 10 extra pounds I'd love to take off.  Other than that, I'm in good health, but I don't feel that in my early 30's I should already have to throw in the towel.  Please help.  I feel like I'm 60.

Are you sure you sleep enough? I think we are supposed to sleep something like 8 hours a day but most of us don't. It's been a while since I tried it myself, but I'd love to try it for a while.

I feel tired since the age of 20 - I started a new job, started sleeping less than before, and never quite got back to the good sleeping habits of my teens.

If you haven't read Ultrametaolism and Untraprevention yet, go out and get them.  You can find out more about the author, Dr. Mark Hyman, here:

Your metabolism does change in your 30s, but there is a lot you can do to beat it.  definitely change your diet to one featuring whole foods and low in processed foods, make sure you are getting enough sleep, but above all, exercise and get fresh air.  I know when you are tired and busy, you feel like the last thing you have time for is exercise, but really, take a ten-minute walk on your lunchbreak, or put on your running shoes and take a 15-minute jog around your neighborhood when you get home.  It will energize you when you are awake, and help you get a better night's sleep so you feel rested.

Good luck!

do you have heavy periods? if so, you are probably anemic (low iron) or possibly a B12 deficiency. the symptoms for both are: fatigue, paleness, shortness of breath, heart fluttering, and possibly: tingling in hands & feet, memory loss,& confusion. you don't have to have all these symtoms to have this disorder. the fatigue alone would be worth trying iron vitamins. i guarrantee you'll feel much better & more energized. also, take vit.C, it helps the iron absorb better.

One possible cause for being always tired is caffeine, that is if you are a heavy coffee drinker of course. Energy drinks contain a much larger amount of caffeine than a cup of coffee.

We experience stress in our daily lives and caffeine just puts more stress in our body and in the long run ruin the functioning of our adrenal glands making us always tired.

I've been a heavy coffee drinker for 20 years. I limited my intake to just 1 cup a day and oh what a difference it made to my energy levels.

Assuming you drink a lot of coffee, try to limit it to just one cup or avoid it altogether. Then follow the advice of adi.

Have you talked to your doctor about this? You might need a blood test to check your thyroid function. Your symptoms are common for someone with a hypoactive thyroid. If your doctor determines this to be the case, then it can be corrected with thyroid medication. If your symptoms are not related to your thyroid, you might want to try a fantastic juice that I drink. It's a delicious blend of 19 fruits with the super fruit, acai in it. It's full of antixoxidants and vitamins and will help you regain your energy.  Check it out and contact me with any questions.
