I used to have relationship status up on my facebook profile, but then after an ex-girlfriend and I broke up and I was bombarded with messages, I decided to just remove the status altogether. The people who know you best are the ones who can know about your relationship. It is no one else's business. If you really want people to know, you can always post photos with descriptive captions that are less obvious than changing your relationship status.

I agree with AndyP. Those people who are closest to you will know about your relationship status whether it's posted on Facebook or not. And posting pictures of you and your boyfriend is another way of indirectly showing those you want to know that you're in a relationship. And if you really want, you can always just ask your boyfriend if he'd mind you putting his name up as being in a relationship. I wouldn't stress though too much about it.
