Why are my eyes irritated?

Lately my eyes have felt really dry and irritated. I try to put in drops but it doesn't really seem to help. Sometimes they look red, which is embarassing because I look either overly tired or stoned. Any suggestions?

Turn off the television and teach your children how to think.

It may be seasonal allergies.

Your best bet may be to ask an opthalmologist what s/he recommends.

Without the rocks in it's bed, the stream would have no song!

Good answere.  Other possibilities: If you drink to much or are dehidrated?

Is this somehting new? If not it may be seasonal allergies. If it is new then it could be SICCA or dry eye syndrome or even the beginning of Sjogren's syndrome which is an autoimmune illness. I advise yo to see an opthamologist ( an eye doctor who is a medical doctor). Your eyes are too important for guesswork.

The best to you.

You don't say how old you are or if this is something new, but it sounds like dry eye syndrome. It can ocurr at any age but generally not until the 30's. If your eyes feel gritty like you have sand or dirt in them and it is painful, it could be the start of it. When the tear ducks quit producing the fluid and lubricant needed to cleanse the eye properly the surface of the eyeball becomes sticky and does not wash out normal debris that generally is washed out each time you blink. Do see an opthamologist in the event this is the case. They can prescribe lubricating eye drops that replace what has been lost. Restasis is one of the best, and not only lubricates the eye, but acually promotes the production of normal tear activity to further aid the eye in cleansing itself naturally. The more you use it the more normal tear production you will experience. If  the problem is just a random ocurrance it could just be the beginning of different allergies, however if it is a daily thing and persists throughout the year, you probably have the beginnings of dry eye syndrome. Better to get it checked, then wonder and be miserable.

Could it be allergy? I have this whenever there's something in the air and my allergy starts to cause problem. My eyes will itch and I can't stop rubbing it. See a doctor and most likely you will get a prescription for allergy.
