Using existing furnace ductwork for AC?

Am I able to use my existing ductwork (forced air heat) to add central air conditioning to my home? I do have room for a new unit, but trying to add a second set of ductwork would be prohibitive...

 Generally speaking if the existing ductwork is thermally insulated, I would say yes. Are the existing ducts wrapped metal with wall or floor outlets? Are the ducts in a crawl space or in the attic? If wrapped, is the wrap foil covered or a brown paper covering? If they are really old they may be covered with a fiber glass insulation wrap with no foil or paper.
