I am new to epals and was considering having my class communicate as a whole group before allowing them to communicate one-on-one. Is this advisable and/or common?

I think that classroom to classroom sharing is a wonderful way to introduce your students to ePals. Good luck!

Hi Kerry

It would depend on how old your students are and what your goals and curriculum are too.  Can you give us some more information?

Thanks,

Sheila

Hi Kerry,

I have been using Epals for a long time and I think that it is O.K to give each one of your pupils his own email address .This is only because you can monitor what they write and even the email they receive from other pupils. They can not use this great site without you controlling their emails.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask me.

Hi! It's common but I don't do it. Actually, it depends on what you want to achieve. I always want to give each of my students a chance to write an e-mai. Some of them find it harder than others, and they can hide behind the braver ones. But, on the other hand, if you want them just to make a contact with a class, that's a good idea. However frightening to your students one-to-one exchange may look, they all feel great after their first mail, believe me.

I'm new also and we just made contact with a school in Spain whole class, it is nice as a start but I've made accounts for my 3rd graders and am anxious to let them email one on one, we just haven't found a class yet. but I think either is fine, what'eve you're comfortable with.
