Does anyone know what this entails?

My recently widowed cousin has been very restless and has evinced some interest in looking for a business as he is tired of working for someone else. Does anyone know what this entails?

This is not a lot of work for you as there are very experienced business professionals who will use a combination of methods to identify, target, locate potential brokers, attorneys, accountants, buyers and websites from a great database and also use direct mail to be able to acquire and position a business that is suitable for you. Opening a business DOES require a lot of work, in fact, it requires a lot more work than working for someone.  BUT, the reward can be very much worth it.  Besides the monetary reward there is also the emotional reward and satisfaction knowing you're your own boss (except for clients).

First thing to consider when you open a business is to decide WHAT TYPE of business you want to open?  Preferably you should open something you know something about, although this isn't required.

Second thing is to determine if there is a need for this item/product/service.

Third, you should start the business while you are employed.  Businesses generally don't make money for the first 6-12 months of opening (that's when they make money at all) and you still need to pay the bills.

This should take care of the next 12-18 months.  Do a LOT of research and be realistic on your ability and your chance of success.

Good luck!

Help for small publishers

That a “book printer” can do print runs of 1,500 copies for the same amount of money as 500 P.O.D. books ! The total amount was less than it cost to print 500 P.O.D. books even when $700 was added to ship people can afford to print off hundreds of books at a time, and not many small independent RPGs sell
