I've started an email arguement with my sister. She lives on the west coast and i live on the east. Our history: She had stopped talking to me for 7 years because i confronted her about her bad behavior. Not until I was diagnosed with illness did she apologize for her cold shoulder.

She's tried to be familiar like a sister again and confided little things to me. I've tried to be remain warm but distant. Yesterday she made comments again that were so inappropriate that I took it upon myself to correct her. She responded as she always has, with feigned ignorance and a dig out of left field against me. My question is...should I have not made any making comments and let her dig her own grave, as my husband suggested? Or was I justified as my younger sister said, applauding me?

Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Your sister may have what you would call bad behavior, but she is still your sister, and you have to be careful with the way you confront people.  I think that you and your sister really need to get together, for a weekend or something and just spend time together, make memories together, talk, catch up, and let everything out.  Remember that being hurtful doesn't accomplish anything.  You can tell her nicely the things that bother you, and she can do the same, and you can both try to fix those things. Other than that though, you just need to accept one another, because you are sisters, and if you want to have the relationship, you have to give, forgive, and accept.  I hope this helps and good luck.
