Architecture students need to do a great deal of presentation work (Photoshop and InDesign), CAD work (AutoCAD, ArchiCAD) and 3D work (Sketch-up, Max, Cinema 4D, Form Z.....). All but AutoCAD and Max work best on a Mac, those two work on a Mac running windows. Mac designers think like architects - graphically and intuitively.
Get the best MacBook Pro you can afford. Spend your money on memory (RAM), a fast graphics card, and processor speed, in that order.

Autocad is pretty much the industry standard.  Unfortunately it only runs on PC's, not on a Mac or Apple.  Whatever you get, you should use a cooling device such as Lapcooler, the simple pad that "cools the jewels" of your laptop
