What kind of side effects can I expect if I stop taking my prescribed Effexor XR?

Practical Thinker, First of all, you must not stop this drug cold turkey. You may give yourself seizures. You have to slowly taper this drug. Make sure you have your doctors approval, and he/she is helping you to taper off. I used to take this drug, and my doctor helped me off of it. You can expect what I call brain rattles. It feels like your brain is not attached to anything, and it is rattling around loose in your head. When you turn your head, it will feel like it takes an extra second or so for your brain to catch up with your eyes. You may have a feeling of falling when you are just standing and talking to the person next to you. I never felt real nauseated or in any real pain. Just lots of strange feelings going on in your brain. It took about 2 months after no Effexor at all for all of this to go away. It is not real pleasant, but you can live with it. You will survive. It just takes time for your brain chemicals to readjust themselves. I wish you well.

Did your doctor tell you not to come off the effexor all at once. If you do stop the effexor all at once you will get very dizzy and neasous. The dizziness can last for weeks. If you ween off the medicine you will have a much smoother transition and experience no side effects. Please check with your doctor first.
