1. The first reason is job opportunity. Just getting a bachelor degree in science will not fetch you a job.

I feel Just doing Bachelor of Science is not going to land you professionally anywhere till you do further. So you have to work more to do masters or even PhD lateron, May be these days people believe in short cuts to get success.

I was not aware that a B.S. was not a desired degree. However, when I went to college the B.S. was always accompanied by some speciality, ie, (B.S.I.M industrial management), (B.S.I.E.industrial engineering) (B.S.E.E. electrical engineering). These were extremely desirable degrees in the 50s and 60s.

Carnations, You appear to be answering your own question, " most of the science stream students? ". These are students that are pursuing Science. Science requires development, and a bachelors degree develops broad based knowledge allowing the student to sample from many areas within their educational persuit without commiting to a any single one aspect. A bachelors of Science gives a general understanding of the methods, purpose, and goals of that scientific precept. I received my B.S.M.E. ( Mechanical Engineering ), I understand the importance of data, and data collection, and data interpretation. I know these are general. Hope this helps
