I am going to be giving a series of talks on college campuses about becoming an engineer. What sorts of things do you think would be most helpful to tell college students about the engineering life? How can I help them best determine if they should pursue a career in engineering?

Thanks!

Hello Joel. I study electric engineering, and I can honestly say I've missed and still do, this kind of lecture. I'm about to start my 3rd year and have no clue about "engineering life" as you phrased it. Speaking for my self, but probably representing others as well, I would, generally, like to know how do engineers integrate in the industry, and whether all the math and physics really needed or is it all computers. (especially for eltx engineers).

I think many students would want to know about the projected job availability in the upcoming years and what they can expect regarding salary.  They might also want to know if there are opportunities to work from home or have flexible schedules.  These issues are very important right now, expecially for women who may want to combine work with a family.
