Speculation without realistic appreciation of the risks coupled with outright fraud led to this crisis.

As far as doing well, yes, some stocks are.  I recently got back into the stock market (last month), and on Monday when the DOW dropped 500+ points, my portfolio was up 4%+.  Of course, I have absolutely no stocks of transportation, housing, banks or other financials.  Pharmacueticals, some tech stocks, and some energy stocks should do well in the short and long term.

The stuff that I don't have should be near their lows, so now could be the time to buy in.  Or not.  It is still very risky, and the risks are largely unknown to me.  I prefer to invest where I have the most knowledge.
