I received my employer's expired business license ...

I received my employer's expired business license citation and was given 10 days probation.  This happened in Columbus, GA and I'm a resident of Alabama.  What law states they can hold an employee responsible for their employer?  I am not an officer of the company nor do I hold any stock in the company.  Need help, am a bookkeeper by trade and this took place before my employment.  I'm afraid I'll never find a job again. Please help!
