You should not keep your daughter from seeing her father because he has an addiction. The best thing to do is make sure he is not doing anything in front of her. Maybe at first stay for her visits with him and when you feel more comfortable allow him to see her by himself.

This can be very hard. I have been with a guy for years now that was a user for 10+m years and he got locked up for 1.5 years and when we came out he was a changed man. In order to allow an addict to move forward you must frogive for the wrong and move with him ( Maybe not together) I used to be a addict as well and when you are one that stuff you dont care about anyone but the drugs and its not even being selfish because in those times you dont care about your self either. I know I have done it, it is very Hard, to just let go. But I did it and we are stronger then ever. He has truley chaged his ways, he is a good man now maybe he can be to. As far as your Daughter it should wait alittle to let him see her but by waiting you run the risk of him relapsing before she sees him you might just want to get it over with then monitor him. I used to give my guy pee test and he understood maybe you should do that or you could go through the courts and he will get tested automatically. Good luck

Your Daughter should see her Father , supervised visits to start with , he will have to earn your trust for any one on one with her .    At 5 she doesn't understand his drug abuse ,  all she knows is this is Daddy and she wants to see him .  I Pray he will overcome his addiction , and be the Father she needs and deserves .

20 thumbs up

Talk to your husband about getting help in prison it's next to impossible to sober up especially from heroin but once he gets out let him know how important it is to you and your daughter that he be a part of her life. Try to get him into a 12 step program educate yourself about it first since inevitably he will try to fight it.

Good luck and may God bless your family

It's very important that your daughter gets to know her father, even if he doesn't break his addiction. Try to reason with him into sobering up. It is very real that if he doesn't, then he will not only not be a part of his daughters life, but may cease to exist. I've come to learn this through my experiences with my own father, and, trust me, she needs to see him while she can.
