how would i get my drivers lisence without taking drivers ed? and how old do i have to be.... this is in california

If you are over the age of 18 you do not have to take driver's education classes. You must take and pass the permit test in order to practice driving, but anyone can give you lessons - you do not have to take lessons from a commercial school or instructor.
