Because dogs are not as smart as people. They don't have the reasoning power of humans. I haven't seen a human being rolling in smelly things unless they are mentally deranged.

Wink Just do it!

If they roll on anything, it is to put their scent on it. Its like when they potty and another dog goes on top of it, they are saying "I am the important one here or I was here, I am the alpha". Also, they are claiming that particular thing.

In a perfect world, every home would have a dog and every dog would have a home.

Its because it may be smelly to you but they like it. Since they like it, they want to smell like it.

To mask their own scent and enable them to sneak up on their prey without detection. It could even fool members of the other species into accepting it as one of their own. This ancient instinct may have carried over to domesticated dogs.
