My dog has CRF and will not eat special low ...

My dog has CRF and will not eat special low protein food givan by to me by the vet. I've tried canned and dry. I made cookies with the canned and some pumpkin...still will not eat. I put bacon drippings on the food (per the vet) and he still will not eat. He is eating green beans but very little. He is only 4 lbs and can't afford to get any smaller. He hates the food that the vet sold us and the dry if to large for his little mouth (IAMS dry special diet) and Purina canned special diet. Can someone help me. I can't let him starve.

Love your life as you only get one.

I have two small chihuahuas and they are very picky eaters. I sometimes use food toppers like  Vita Gravy for Dog Food Topper or Iams Savory Sauce.

I also find that giving them vitamin gel helps, as it often increases their appetite. You can get this at your local Petco. Good luck.

Visit your local holistic pet store and try a raw diet.  Obviously you will need to get a low-protein diet, but they should be able to lead you.  They can also advise on various supplements to help increase appetite.  I do not recommend commercial food toppers, as they usually contain some kind of protein and the idea here is to DECREASE protein, not add it unnecessarily.  They also tend to contain a lot of salt for flavor.  If you do not have a holistic pet store near you, visit holisticforpets.com.  The owner's name is Val and she is an absolute encyclopedia of dog nutrition and health.  You can email her through the site.  Good luck.

I got an e-mail this morning about a puppy mill going up in our area. What is it about dogs they no longer can produce but it is not ok for this for dogs? Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely horrified breeding and poor care is much more damaging to a dog! We see so many unwanted pets in shelters
