My dogs have fleas!!

I have dogs and they have fleas! I know this is nothing unusual, but they have never had fleas like they have now. They have been given baths with flea shapoo and still have fleas. Is there anything I can use that does not have chemicals? I would like to stay as natural as I can. In the past I would have used sprays, but not anymore. Does boric  acid powder or 20 Mule Team Borax work? I heard you can use this on the carpet, but what about directly on the dogs? Does garlic in their food or brewers yeast work?Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi,

I realize you don't want to use chemicals but in this particular case it's the best way to deal with the problem. I don't know of any other treatments that have been proven to work.

Fleas can be a big problem at this time of year! Generally flea shampoos/collars and such are not very effective. Of course the most effective treatment is a spot-on such as Frontline Plus. It's pretty much guaranteed to kill all the fleas on your dog. Back that up with a flea 'fogger' in your home and you'll be good to go.

However, if you really want to try the chemical-free approach first, there's an 'all-in-one' type treatment that is safe to use on your dog, home and  yard. It's a natural product and you can find it (plus lots more information, tips and advice on dealing with those annoying fleas - and ticks) at http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/fleas-and-ticks.html

Good luck!
