I have a female 5 month old daschund with bad habits.  She is obedient and often listens well, but she humps everyone that ever comes to the house!  Is it even normal for female dogs to hump and what should I do?  We've tried pushing her away, walking away and saying no, but she gets more aggresive and continues the deed!  Help!!

You didn't mention whether she is the only pet you own, so I assume that the answer is Yes. Humping among females usually occur due to hormonal changes and excess levels of androgenic hormones. A simple hormone level test can identify that. Other options are Obsessive compulsive disorder, which symptoms can be eased by Prozac, or anxiety. You can first try to discourage her, by giving her commands such as 'sit'.

If you do have another pet at home, humping is simply a sign of dominance.

It will probably pass once she gets a little older.

Having another pet in the house could be a good idea regardless.

Humping is usually due to an issue of dominance. She may be letting all visitors know that this is her house. She is still young and you can try to modify this behavior by distracting her. First, firmly say "No, (dogs name)" and immediately throw a ball or her favorite toy for her to chase.

Live each day as if it's your last.

Has she been spayed?

I have two female chihuahuas that humped everything they saw up until I had them spayed. After they were spayed, the humping ended. It's been about 3 years since they had their surgery and on very rare occasions, I'll see one of them humping one of their bigger stuffed toys (they're about 5 pounds each).
