Best dog training book?

What would you say is the best dog training book available?

I have a border collie puppy so I would like something geared towards trick and obedience training.

And of course how to stop dogs from chewing, digging holes and excessive barking.

Thanks

The best dog training book that I found is an e-book. The advantage that it has over a paper book is that it has videos as well - so you can hear and see what you need to say and do, and How to say and do it.

It's by Dove Creswell, and is for puppy and adult dog training. Dove works for movies and commercials, so plenty of credentials.

The lessons I found to be fun, interesting and they make sense.

For more info visit best dog training e-book .

Hope that helps, good luck with the dog training.

I highly recommend "Caesar's Way" by Caesar Millan (not sure about the spelling on the first name).  EVERY dog owner and anyone that even comes into contact with a dog on a regular basis should read this book. It really helps you to understand the way a dog is made and how he/she reacts to things. It might not help you teach him tricks, but once you know how he reacts..you will be able to teach him anything! PLEASE read this book (check out your local library for a copy!)  Hope this helps!

Try the breed's kennel club. Google "Border Collie Kennel Club". The breed's club is going to have the most current and relevant information for your new puppy!

Hope this helps!

The best book I have found for foundation training and understanding your puppy is "Mother Knows Best" by Carol Benjamin.  This book will teach you how to train your puppy the way the natural mother would and helps you socialize your puppy and gives you the basics for the foundation for further training.  Then after this book you can move on to actual dog training books but you need the foundation first.

There are many good dog training books.  I would like to suggest that you get into a dog obedience class in your area.  The teachers in these classes usually like to recommend their own favorite author.  Right now I can not find my author, but you can not go wrong with Barbara Woodhouse or the Monks of New Skete.  Hope this helps.

OMG I used that book - the best dog training book is the one George suggested.

I have a golden cocker spaniel, and nothing worked before. He was as naughty as you could imagine. Nipping, excessive barking, digging, chewing furniture - you have no idea!!

Highly recommend it - great vids too- I thought the price could have been a bit lower, considering it's an ebook - but then again you don't get videos with normal paper books - so you decide.

Know any good dog training books or DVD?

I have my 5 month old in puppy class. I was going to go through all 4 classes at Petsmart, but thinking I could save about $300.00 and teach my puppy the same things (and probably more), if I invest in a good book or DVD. I'd prefer a dog training DVD, but books are fine too. That way I can also apply the training to our other two dogs at the same time.
