Try not feeding him dog food with corn r corn products. Each time U feed him mix a can of sardines with the non corn food. Keep his bowl full so he can eat anytime he wants. Keep his water fresh and clean. No pizza r cheese. Bathe him twice a week in tap water and mild dog shampoo, heat according to outside temperature. Rinse very good, let air dry if hot weather r use a towel that doesn't shed. Make sure his bed is clean and void of fleas, mites, etc. Keep him active and play with him when he wants to play. It takes time to heal.

i totally agree with rubberguy's answer.  but i would like to add that there are many supplements that you can add to your dog's food to help.  My akita used to scratch herself bald because of dermatitis.  Now we are careful what we feed her (no corn or wheat glutens) and we give her a "coat and skin" fatty acid supplement for dogs.  She rarely scratches now and all her hair grew back!  Here are some links to supplements:  The Missing Link Canine Formula , 3V Caps For Medium & Large Dogs , Lipiderm Lg Breed , Derm Caps Extra Strength .  One of these should definitely help.  I hope your baby heals up quickly!

I have a chihauhau with the same problem.  The vet gave her a steroid shot to help with what ever she is allergic to.  She said the dog has an allergy.  She said one shot aught to do.
