My dog has kidney problems

My 13 year old female dog went to the Vet for her yearly check up and shots and he found the following:  CO2 - 14 L; Urea Nitrogen - 40.5 H; Crestinine - 1.9 H; Alk Phosphatase - 245 H; UA Microprotein - 145.4 H and UPro/Ucrea Ratio - 1.7 H.
He told me that she has serious Kidney problems and put her on Hill's RX k/d diet and Azodyl Caps.
My question is that she has behaved normal, eats really well, drinks normal etc.  How could this be so off yet she shows no sign of anything.  Should I expect that something dreadful will happen suddenly one day or will it be a progression of symtoms?

I'm not a vet but I think your doctor should be able to explain these results.  Good luck.
