My dog is an 8lb maltese shitzu mix and he had a ...

My dog is an 8lb maltese shitzu mix and he had a slightly elevated kidney value. We sent his first urine in for an analysis and his specific gravity is 10.10. They want me to come in for a paired test (whatever that means) i think a urine culture/blood test. Could this turn out to be nothing? Does it sound life threatening?

Most of the time this can be fatal and he could require minor surgery, after that he should be fine.
