I would recommend one of two options

1. There are many animal shelters with dogs who are just waiting to be  adopted , they are very sad and they need you love.

2. Get a very expensive dog from what ever kind that is fashionable now , you will get a sick puppy that would probably die young and can find love in some other cold hearted person's house.

I am sorry I actually recommend only the first one , but you must understand that you can find many kinds of dogs in this places , and I am pretty sure you will find a puppy that will fit you. And you will make one dog happy this winter.

Well, if you are looking to find the right dog for your type of lifestyle, you should spend some time on some online dog community sites.   Try Daily Puppy dog community site at dailypuppy.com.  Then, research weather or not you want to adopt or buy from a breeder.

Not far from NY so I know all about it but really if you can’t do all those things then don’t get a dog. It’s not fair for him to be felt alone all day and then never get out to play or run around. You best bet would be really a cat. They don’t mind living inside and like to be left always. They find things on their own too to play with just make sure your place is save cause cat’s do get into things.

I live in NY and there is a huge dog community here.  Dont listen to those that tell you it is impossible.  That said, it is difficult to not have a yard.  Do you have at least an hour each day to bring your dog to a dog run?  Do you have the time, energy, and money to train a dog?  If not, then I also suggest you consider adopting a cat, because they are sub stantially less work.

I have two large dogs in NY.  Really the type of dog depends on you.  I suggest a larger dog, like a dane or mastiff, because they need less excercise and go out less.  Little dogs are much more high energy.

But I am concerned.  Why can you only go out for 20-30 minutes each time?  This is NOT enough outside time for any dog, regardless of size.  If you arent willing to change your lifestyle then you should really not have a dog.  Also, remember that this will be for the next 12 years of your life.  It is irresponsible to give away a dog because it is inconvenient for you.  SO make sure that this is really what you want.Think of getting a dog like getting a tattoo.  It is for life.

See if an English Bulldog would be a good fit.... be wary of back yard breeders and puppy mills though, because this breed seems to be pretty popular.

I would suggest getting a bird like a green cheeked conure. They are very loving and don't need to go outside ever. They talk and are very quiet. Not the screamers some birds can be. Good luck with whatever you choose. If it has to be a dog I suggest you get a small lapdog.
