Should all of my documents pertaining to my website be in a folder named "public_html" for it to be accessable to the web?

I am new to webdesign. I have built a site using NVU but, I can't seem to upload it to my host or server. I think I may not have it saved properly for access. I do not have a file public_html on my computer. Do I need to create this folder (public_html) and then move all documents I've already created and saved, pertaining to my site, to this folder? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm soo lost at this point. I worked my way through building the site, redirecting the DNS settings and now I can't get my site published to my host and they DO NOT offer any tech support! Yes, bad choice on my part! PLEASE HELP.

If you are using a host that is Linux based, you need to find either a public_html or www folder that is on the server computer.  Then upload whatever files you want to this folder and it should work, no need to create one on your personal computer.
