Can a doctor demand that parent of minor leaves room?

Please help me!  I live in Maryland, and is there a law that says a parent must leave the room when the gynecologist asks you to leave so that she can ask my 15 year old daughter some questions in private?  I felt like I had lost my parental control, it just didn't feel right.  I have a good girl, and she told me what the doctor asked, but I was still infuriated.  Please answer!!!!!

The road to nowhere is paved with good intentions.

I'm the mother of a daughter myself.. and I would say infuriated is good!  I would call the police, (drop a certain doctors name) and ask them this question right now.

The "State" your in should have nothing to do with it.

I don't know if it's a state law or not, but isn't it possible that it's some sort of medical policy also?

I understand your anger, but I have to say that would not bother me. A fifteen year old deserves some privacy, and since I know I have raised her to think for herself and to be trustworthy, what would I have to worry about?

At some point, your children grow up. If they don't start learning how to handle themselves when they are teens, how will they be able to do it once they are out on their own?

Happy Valentine's. Play us a rose, you're organic, man.

Victims of circumstance owe it to fate. Victims of choice owe it to themselves.

Some teens will talk to the doc about things that they will not talk to their parents about. This may have been nothing more than affording your daughter an opportunity to discuss some issues with the doc.

Whether it is a law or not, I think that it is common sense. I do not agree with Asha on this one.

I also understand your anger. All I am asking is that you try and see this from another point of view. After all, I doubt anyone but you is losing sleep over this.

I pray that you achieve resolution on this issue soon. I wish you well.
