My water heater constantly trips the dedicated ...

My water heater constantly trips the dedicated circuit breaker for it, I have lowered the desired temperature to no more than 120 degrees F..what is causing it?

You probably have a bad heating coil  ....   If you have a dual coil tank turn down one of the thermostats and test unit ...  repeat for the other coil ....   Check resistance of the coils and between the coil and ground..  a bad thernostat will sometimes pop the breaker also......lastly you may have a bad circuit breaker

It could be the breaker is getting old and going bad.  The more a breaker trips, the weaker it gets, until eventually it trips under normal loads.

My first guess would be that the breaker is either not the right size or it is simply worn out.  Often times circuit breakers wear out and trip frequently, try replacing it with a new one and see if that helps.
